An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is necessary when you need to make a deposit or file return and it is always suggested to obtain an EIN earlier to avoid the hassle.

Overview

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a federal tax identification number and is used to identify a business entity. It is commonly used by employers for the purpose of reporting taxes. It is also used by estates and trusts which have income which is required to be reported on Form 1041, U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts.

You are able to get your EIN immediately by applying online

If you’re faxing a completed Form SS-4 to the service center for your state, you’ll get the return fax by a week.

Note: If you do not include a fax number the process will take more than 2 weeks
