Social Security Number 

Every individual who is employed in the U.S must have a Social Security Number (SSN) or apply for one. SSN is a nine digit (xxx-xx-xxxx) number issued by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Every employer who sets up payroll and pays individual wages must request the employee’s SSN and report the employee’s wages using that number.

Parents must also obtain an SSN for any child which could be claimed on an income tax return.

What do you need to do to get an SSN?

You will need to complete Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card (PDF). You also must submit evidence of your identity, age, and U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status. For more information please see the Social Security Administration website.

How to apply for an SSN?

You may apply for one by completing an application known as the Form SS-5 and submitting it along with the evidence of your identity, age, and U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status. Form SS-5 is also available by calling 1-800-772-1213 or visiting your local Social Security office. These services are free.

Individual Tax Identification Number

Individual Tax Identification Number, or ITIN is a US taxpayer identification number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which allows the taxpayers without a Social Security Number (SSN) to file income tax returns. This tax processing number is only available for both residents and non-residents, their spouses, and dependents who aren’t eligible for a  Social Security Number (SSN).

How to get an ITIN?

You are required to complete IRS Form W-7, IRS Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number and attach all the necessary documents along with your application.

You can submit your documents( attach your federal income tax return, Proof of Identity & foreign status) in the following ways:
